How to prepare for a switch ?

I have almost a year experience in java. How to prepare for a switch. For the past month I tried applying consistently on naukri, linkedin, instahyre. In some cases profile was viewed, in some got interview calls from very small startups (1-10), but till now no interview calls from mid to big companies. For some application where I felt I am a good choice I applied through referral. But I could not see any progress. Any suggestions or help how should I do it, or what wrong I am doing
