How to network within your Firm

I'm a backend research analyst at MBB and I get my work primarily through a tracker where research requests come in. But building rapport with frontend consultants and leadership would get me lot more responsibilities and I could involve in problem solving much more.

But my networking skill needs to be up. I have tried cold mailing - for some reason I'm not hitting the nail. How do I up my networking and comm.?
