How to move out of a toxic project in TCS

I am currently working on a toxic project where everyone in the team is from a particular state and every call is happening in their native language. Without my confirmation my lead moved me to this project. Now I am looking to move out of this project will there be any risk for me if I am on the bench? To whom do I need to discuss moving out? Is it true that layoffs happened for bench employees?
