How to know that my internship going in a right direction?

• the amount of hand holding you need should be decreasing
• you're being exposed to new things instead of doing similar things over and over
• you're able to interact with people from different teams or at least different people

Also, as @Dbdheishdbsh said, you should be pushing stuff to prod

If you don't have monthly 1:1 with your manager, try asking your colleagues for feedback
