My humble suggestion - Don’t worry about something which you can’t control. I can sense the anxiety and everyone of us are going thru it at different levels.

Maintain good optics, keep communicating with leadership on the impact (if possible $ value) of your team.

Upskilling will definitely help if it happens.

Maintaining financial cushion for the rainy day.

You’re head of data science with 17 years experience when entire world is going crazy over AI. You should be the last person to worry about layoff or opportunities

You can’t foolproof yourself from a layoff. No one can. Because they aren’t based on performance or skills issues, rather due to cost-cutting or investors pressure. Best one can do is have a good amount of savings, keep EMI as low or none at all, live within your means, stay updated in interviews/industry knowledge and leave all rest to god and destiny 🙌🏻
