How much should i ask?
I currently have a package of 23 lpa fixed + 1.5-3 lakh variable working from home. I am getting an opportunity to work in a very great company but i have to relocate to mumbai. I don't mind relocation until i am compensated for it and get some extra saving in the end.
I was planning somewhere between 33-34 lpa fixed.. Does this makes sense
You can go for 40-45. Try negotiating a lot with conditions like I have to relocate etc. You are going to pay rent and that's a huge expenditure. Plus there will be trips back home. Food expenditure. Once you move cities there is change in lifestyle expenditure as well. To ask 30 is like taking 23 but moving out of your home. Note that Mumbai is one of the most expensive cities in India.
30 sounds reasonable. What is your YOE?

For 5 YOE, 30 sounds too high (6 times) unless u r tier 1 MBA
