How much is too much?

Would like to see the adjacent data if our salaries commensurate with the standard when considering the number of working hours

Indians work much more than that, most of the managers do not allow to record extra working hours

BubblyQuokka

Yep totally agree, they consider only as per what we budgeted to the client rather than the actual working hours

We need to work more because if we don't then there are 100 people in line to take the job from us. That is not an issue in first world countries due to low population levels.

I am sure in terms of output or efficiency, we would be at the bottom.

Not sure

We definitely do. I work 10 hours a day, for 5 days, and sometimes stay active on weekends too.

It's as choice I make, nobody tells me to. How did it get baked into me? I don't know.

I guess we learnt this from our parents.

I know all these rants here from IT, service industry folks or the e-commerce people. But people on internet, do not even know what happens in the construction Industry. I studied in a top NIT, 9 pointer, placed on day1 at L&T. Worked 12-14hrs a day for 6 days Monday to Saturday. In addition to that, Minimum one Sunday per month would be working. There would be compo off promised for that but would not be “allowed” to take as we were staying in Company Guest House with our managers.
Someone then wrote to the central HR team anonymously about this in 2012. Soon there were biometric machines put on all the construction site and we were told by our Project Managers to clock only 9hrs forcefully😂😂

Let’s not be surprised here. One of the reasons why multiple mncs come here is because we work harder and cheaper.

Cheap Labour market

TwirlyTaco
TwirlyTaco

Precisely. And frankly we have made the most of it. Our government jobs and other small time players are not very available or friendly. Because mncs have to follow certain guidelines, we are able to have some regulation and growth. Otherwise why aren’t we joining tcs etc. Why are we searching for Accentures, Morgan Stanley’s and the others. It’s either this, or jobs outside I dia. Let’s cherish what we have here and give it due respect

This will continue to be the case as long as our whole outlook is to get business outside of India. As long as we keep working for others they will pay us minimum wage and enslave us. We need a focus shift in businesses to start working for our own population. Customer Service, Healthcare Providers, Small Scale Skill Workers… these jobs need to start paying for what they are worth.

It is a very aspirational view . Why are these businesses trying to take people from India ? They have no loyalty to any country and no interest in enslaving . The base line is profit . I have worked with India customers , they are worst in terms of payments .

Condition of Contractual Workers in Middle East, Shein, H&M, Zara and a thousand other brands would say otherwise. It is true that corporations are just looking to maximise their profits. But I am sure the decision makers aren’t blind to what those profits mean either. Most corporations are happy to pretend as long as they can pay $10 dollars instead of $20 with benefits to workers. Yes profit is a motivation, but being inhumane is a choice.

Feels like a vicious cycle - “India has cheap labour” -> MNC jobs come to India to extract most work out of least money -> People get burnt out and quit or are laid off -> Another person comes to take the job at same or lower pay because we are 140+ crore people, so someone is also there to do the job -> “India has cheap labour”

Our population is the root cause of all big issues in the country. So many people fighting for so little resources.
