How much influence do designers have in your company, and how is their work recognized?

I recently joined a new organization and noticed that design maturity is at its lowest, with most of the credit going to PMs, even though designers do the majority of the work on various projects (aside from engineers, of coursešŸ†).

I'm curious to know how this typically plays out in other organizations—Is this a common scenario, or are my expectations too much due to the experience at my previous company?

I believe it really matters who is representing design at leadership level. Weather people accept it or not - design is a creative job - you cant quantify it like you do other functions. That also means other factors like perception and reputation matters more than other functions.

Majority of the companies dont do creative work, dont appreciate creativity or simply dont understand it beyond ā€œpretty UIā€.

How can they appreciate something they dont care about?

So here is the repo/appreciation one has.

Frontend engineers (web or app) gets most appreciation. Then come product managers
Then backend engineers
Then designers
Then devops and security guys.

When something goes wrong
Then backend engineers
Then product managers /engineering managers
Then designers Then frontend engineers
