
How much hike to ask?
I am a dot net dev and 4.5 yoe, recently given interview with cognizant for Senior Software engineer B2 position, they are offering me 14 lpa, hr negotiation was done, I have told my expectations is minimum 17 to 20 lpa but hr said no, this is not in budget and suggested to make it 14.5, how much I can ask further or can I negotiate further, she said we can work on counter offer. Current comp is 9 lpa and april hike is pending and I have asked for promotion from C1 to c2 in tcs, manager told that it can be done after appraisal cycle closes yet it is not initiated yet. What should I do? Should I wait for the April hike then put paper or wait for promotion also or put the paper before band and tcs comp release if I get the offer from cognizant before the band and new comp release from tcs. Please pour your thoughts and any inputs. TIA

I'll give you mathematical details You are at 9L. With appraisal and promotion max you will reach approx 11L in TCS For any new company, you should know how much is variable, what position, what are allowances and what will be basic pay, how frequent promotion happens, Annual hike % any additional benefits like health insurance, etc Also Don't count Variable as 100%. Company won't pay by giving any reason
You should have your minimum number from which you won't go below
If you think your worth is 17 to 20L then be firm on that. If you think cognizant will help in your career, you can negotiate may be 16lpa but not less than that

Yeah even I think the same. Will negotiate further once I have a counter offer, no further choice I have. Just was confused should I wait for the April appraisal or not if I get the offer from them at early. Fixed 14 lpa and variable 45k they are providing as per hr.
