it depends on the life stages of individual members. If it is one elderly person, two school going children and a spouse, then look for min 20 LPA to live comfortably.

1.5 lakhs would be good.

Assuming 2 kids in school and 1 old parent, with rent. Considering school fees, other tution costs, extra curricular activities, medical bills, entertainment, grocery, insurances, minimum domestic travel, clothing etc...

I would say 1.5lc post tax is minimum for a decent lifestyle. You won't have much/any savings in that.

Anything less than that, still livable no doubt but better move to tier-2,3 city. Much better quality of life.
