How much does domain/industry experience matter in PM role?

Hi All, I want to be a generalist PM who has worked across domains and products. I feel considering my personality and interests I would find horizontal knowledge across industries more attractive than in depth knowledge in one field. If you are a hiring manager or a veteran PM , can you suggest if this is a good way of thinking or if it will harm my career in the long run?
