How long does it take to get promoted from L9 to L8?

I would say 10 years - unless you’re lucky. No L8 makes no difference. You will be expected to first prove your ability to handle the responsibility of an L8 then get promoted (easy 4-5 years) and after that moving to L7 is a matter of luck and visibility management.

Better to move to another company as manager than waiting here
