How is it even possible to fake work experience?

Context:

I was reading a post where the OP mentioned verifying fake internships, but how is that even possible? Wouldn't they verify with the companies? I can understand faking a PoR, but even that should be difficult. Faking any kind of internship should be nearly impossible. It might be possible to craft a convincing story, but if they conduct a background check, it will be exposed, regardless of how believable the story is.

Verification process can be fooled to a certain extent. Placereps do not mail the companies, First, for proof of internship, a certificate / letter on official letter head of the company is needed (which can be easily faked). This will ensure the company name and the name of the internship you would be putting in your resume. Second, to verify the work of the internship, a mail from the manager at your internship is needed, verifying it. This is easy if you know someone at the company. The place rep will check the LinkedIn profile of the person or a card with their designation would do. The placerep will verify the internship points with the mail you will provide. Done , your internship is verified now.

Oh, I get it now. So one basically needs connections to pull off this kind of stunt. I didn't know people even do this kind of stuff. I think it's quite risky, isn't it? Like, what if the manager tarnishes their reputation?

Your friend could play as your manager, just his designation at the time of approving your points has to be higher than yours. Also this is just for college placement verification by Placereps, not for actual background verification which companies do. That will not be easy to fake since the Background verification company will contact the HRs and respective people of your previous company. Hence that is why the person in your post also is referring to Placereps only.
