Could you please name some good sectors? Also what rent can we expect for 1/2 bhk unfurnished/furnished

People avoid zirakpur due to traffic, any sector except 45 is good in Chandigarh, look for flats in panchkula as well. Rent for 2bhk can vary from 15k-25k furnished. I live in a 3bhk unfurnished for 20k in panchkula

Chandigarh is a great place. I'm natively for Punjab and have lived in Chandigarh for a long time.

If you're planning to move, then I'd recommend you either stay in the main Chandigarh or Panchkula. By every means, avoid the areas in Punjab like Zirakpur and Mohali.

There are some good areas in Mohali like Aerocity but I'd still recommend you to avoid Punjab areas entirely.

Have you ever been to Chandigarh?

Born and brought up in chandigarh. Husband is from Panchkula. Already waiting for retirement to go back and settle in the city.
Both chd and pkl (some sectors) are good for residential purpose. Do you have any particular factors in mind that you would want to consider before finalising the place for rent? Also are you also moving with them or will they be staying alone? This will also impact where you would want to take the rented place Rent is mostly higher in Chandigarh as compared to panchkula.

Thank you so for adding, this helps. So I won't be staying with them hence looking for safe and easy going residential areas. Open to both Chandigarh and Panchkula (taking suggestions). Hoping for a 1/2 BHK furnished flat, if you would have any area suggestions on areas/sectors. Also for these would you have any idea how rents would range in Chandigarh vs Panchkula?

You can go for the main sector in chandigarh & mohali. Also strongly consider anything except 19+ sectors of Panchkula as that's a very well maintained area & extremely peaceful to live in.

Do not go for Kharar, Zirakpur, or basically any of the areas that are basically just flats like Sector 20 Panchkula if your parents are planning on owning a car and use it a bit as traffic is unbearable in those areas.

But if you want them to have some community with the society, then a flat might make some sense, but do consider the traffic even in that case as noise from traffic can get irritating.

Thanks for adding! Yes they would use car, and yes agree with your last point. So in that case could you help what are some good sectors when you say main chandigarh / Panchkula to look out for. Also considering the option as 1/2BHK fully furnished flats, what can be the rents?

Check elevations of the localities. Recently a lot of places were flooded heavily
