How I got a Job Referral at Google?

I am from a Tier 2.5 college, and honestly didn’t got selected in internship during my 3rd year. During my fourth year I tried for job referral at Google and knew that it wouldn’t be easy. Plus, Google employees get tons of messages on LinkedIn asking for referrals, so I need to find a smart way to stand out. I started messaging those employees who had fewer number of connections on Linkedin than those with more than 10k connections and found that these were more likely to reply. I also made sure to keep my messages really short just 2 or 3 lines mentioning the skills, job link, and a link to my resume(with view permission). Eg: “Hi [Name], I have 2 years of experience in Python and JavaScript. I'm interested in the SWE 1 position at Google (link). Here’s my resume: [link]. I’d appreciate any insights or referral opportunities. Thank you!” Also, keeping the message not just copy pasted and little personalized made it read completely.

P.S. It took me around 3 months to figure out and get job referral but these days there are a lot of apps to get it quickly: BoostMyReferral: https://www.boostmyreferral.com/, Instahyre: https://www.instahyre.com/.

All the best!
