How does the future look like for 0-1 Guy.

Hey all, I’m 29, Marketing and Growth Guy. Making 2.5L/Month (In Hand). And some side income of 50k-1L.

I’m an expert in taking the startups in their journey of 0-1.

However, every night it haunts me that in some years, I’ll be irrelevant because of younger generations taking up the positions or if not irrelevant, I’ll be costly for 0-1 startups.

In fact, even now, most of the high growth startups don’t hire me saying I don’t have experience of handling massive budgets.

Can’t go into corporate after working for 8 years in startups.

I’m investing and saving a lot. But that won’t be enough. Not looking to start my own business. Been there done that. Didn’t work out.

So what are your plans? Or if you have any suggestions for me?

Hey man, extremely similar position here It haunts me too, of course there's a risk of becoming irrelevant.

That said, this is what comforts me:

  • I love 0 to 1, but my ultimate goal is to actually do something meaningful. It hasn't happened yet, but fingers crossed, one day a startup I take from 0 to 1, will also go to 100 (that's my hope)
  • If that doesn't happen, then I'll keep going at early stage startups till it makes sense. But I don't know yet if I'll be as motivated a few years out

It is a tricky place to be in. I don't know how you actually think about it. The hope to not be stuck in an endless 0 to 1 loop is what keeps it going. Of course, day to day is nice as it is.

@AlphaGrindset Yes even I hope the same - Taking 0-1 startup to 100. But that requires a lot of time. And probability is also less. Most of the startups would shut down in 3 years. (even if they have raised funds).

Moreover, from my personal experience, things change as the company grows and I don't enjoy it anymore and then I leave. So, I'm also stuck in the loop.

You both will be alright. I have no experience related to growth so I might be wrong but as long as entrepreneurs want to build something, your services will be required to support them in the initial stages.

Hey, can you plse define 0-1. Is it from 0 to $1M or 10M usd? Is it in B2B SaaS or in e-commerce? I am 32 and have been at this since I was 23. Maybe can offer you a perspective based on more info

It’s not really defined by revenue. In funding terms I would say bootstrapped to Series A.

Well, IMO whatever be the stage of the firm we work in if as a growth and marketing person you are not able to tie your work to revenue then it will be difficult to justify salaries esp. once you cross the 7-10 year exp mark

Scale the side thing, that's my focus while doing the job like a 9-5 job and not be invested in it

@nooneknows That's the goal. But that's freelancing - And I hate it. It is like having 10 different bosses instead of 1.

Try a series B ish place, they would be happy to take you and would be able to match/ give hike. Grow in ladder there.
