How does the career progression look like in a WITCH company?

I had joined Infy some time back. What if I only switch within WITCH and stick to it. Will it affect my career negatively.

Let’s say I join a WITCH company as a fresher and don’t switch and stick to it. How will the career progression look like?

Starting your career in service companies like WITCH can be a practical stepping stone, offering foundational skills in technology, processes, and soft skills. However, for substantial career growth and higher salary prospects, exploring opportunities beyond these firms is important after gaining initial experience. Transitioning to roles in product companies or specialized tech firms can lead to more challenging work and better compensation.

No point in doing a 6-8LPA job as a fresher or 25LPA as a senior. If you need an onsite opportunity and are happy to settle for less in your youth. It may suit you.

Are you a good looking female? If yes, there is no need to worry about career progression. Managers will fall over each other to make it happen.

I started my career with Infy and was with them for 5 years. Let me give you a brief of my experience.

My primary reason for sticking with Infy was:

  1. The office was in my home town Chandigarh so I was with my family
  2. I was a decent performer and luckily got good projects to work on
  3. I was in hopes of the H1B visa.

The salary wasn’t great. Started with 3.25lpa out of college, which seemed good for a tier3 grad. Received double digit hikes for the first 2 years as my ratings were good.

Infy follows a strict role tenure in terms of promotion. For progressing from the starting Systems Engg to a Tech Analyst, you need atleast 3yoe. I got promoted at 3.5yoe.

Next promotion would happen after 7yoe to Team lead. Salary was around 6lpa this time around. Project work was stagnant and my visa didn’t go thru the H1B lottery. So I decided to switch.

Many people were content with sticking to Infy for the entire length of their career, but for most of them, financial aspect wasn’t much of an issue.

I’d not suggest to stay in WITCH for a prolonged period. Firstly, the pay is sub standard. And there are a lot of restrictions in terms of remote work, leave policies etc that are very open and lenient in other bigger firms.

My career has grown exponentially since I left Infy. I had a good time there, but also think it was necessary to move out when I did.

Hope I was able to answer your question.

I think iam not in a witch but a similar one and have been here since 14+ yrs. I do know that my friends in top product orgs make almost double of me but iam happy that i work only for 4-5 hrs in a day and can spend more time with family and supporting my wife who also earns similarly to me . So less stress , less pay . Had a decent onsite for 2.5 yrs in between which covered up good on finances.
