How do you maintain hard skills while moving into a more strategic role?

I loved coding, but wanted to have more impact on product direction. Now I'm worried I'm becoming obsolete in the tech world. Has anyone successfully straddled the line between technical and managerial roles? How do you stay relevant in both worlds?
