How do you even get a product role nowadays?

For context, I am a product manager at a struggling startup. The role is wfh. We have people working in the UK, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia etc.

I currently work at a video analytics company. We solve mostly security and surveillance issues for both private and government Enterprises, but mostly on government projects. Since were depended on government projects, nothing seems stable and we also have a lot of partners like VMS vendors, hardware folks (GPU’s etc).

Coming to my role, I started as an intern at this company, and from the very beginning, I had to lead a lot of projects. Most of these projects went nowhere or abandoned in between as we had no engineering bandwidth and the required talent to make these roadmaps come to reality. I worked on an contextual advertising platform, which analyses the context of the website like analysing the images and and using LLMs to understand the context of the page to show some ads via e-commerce affiliate partners. This one nowhere as we had no partners to work with her, simply, there was no demand.

After that, I have worked on multiple products like a B to see home and community security platform There any user with CCTV camera scan plug-in their cameras and can get alerts on. Over 200 kinds of use cases. Like theft, fire over speeding car, alert, or any kind of object or activity alert.

I have also worked on creating a platform for waste management companies where they can count objects of various classes and get an estimation of the weights by incorporating pixel density of each of the object.

I have also worked on creating and improving our existing products. Algo, models, dashboard platform.

So my experience is nothing out of extraordinary, but I have worked on several products mostly in B2B setting.

Currently has gotten bad because our leadership doesn’t really understand what Product Management is and now just to show some work that we are doing, we are all having to do Project Management instead, where we take care of deployments.

I am still struggling with getting interviews and even clearing them.

I have taken up courses like Nextleap and have prepared for interviews, but still nothing.

So the question for you guys:

  1. is my experience good enough to get into a good product org?

  2. How do I increase my chances of getting more calls? Should I join some course like growth X? Should I move to Bangalore to network with some people and probably join any early stage startups?

  3. Any suggestions regarding the same would be very helpful.

Thanks.
