How Did You Handle Life After a Layoff?

To those who’ve experienced a layoff, first of all, sending strength and solidarity your way. 🙌 Everyone’s journey looks different, and there’s no “one right way” to handle a layoff.

I’m curious to know how people generally respond after one:

Started applying right away
Took a planned break (few weeks/months)
Still figuring things out

Got laid off in March, I've less than 1 year of full time experience. Done some DSA to crack good interviews in April but I found it less interesting than building something useful. On May 1st started a project in which I have a strong belief that it will work. After one month I got the backbone of it ready and currently it's either equal or better than the market solutions to it. This month I will complete and then start the sales part. I've been treated very badly in my previous job, after layoff I felt worse. My thought is to never be in that position in my life. I'm 25 and my family depends on me but I made this decision for them, me and my secure future. It is hard as I'm seeing some financial issues in my family and worsening health conditions, but I'm keeping faith and will be complete and start distribution at the end of this month. If I didn't succeed there will be a gap in my career and it's not the first gap in my career but I have to take this leap of faith. If I fail I think the project can get me some jobs at least at some startups. But I will never stop building. I never want to feel helpless like that again, so take a risk. Time will tell if it's worth it or not

I was struggling with frustration and self confidence issues. So I spent a couple of weeks in just cooling off a bit. Watched movies, read books, met and talked to a lot of friends.

Ultimately for me, the best thing was to keep in touch with friends and family coz job hunting took a toll on my mental health. But talking to people helped me in keeping my calm

I got laid off day before yesterday and I'm finding it difficult to talk to my friends due to inferiority complex. I don't feel like revealing to them what has happened but then talking without mentioning the problem won't help much. I don't know what can be done here

There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do this.
