In the competitive world, the kid should know English and eventually the kid will start talking in English by learning in School and interacting with parents. But the first language the kid should know is there home language / Hindi language because the child will learn what you are talking at home, what feelings we are sharing in home language. I have seen Indian child who knows English language only because his indian parents talk in English with that child from his birth. So when the orderly person interacted with him in Hindi, he didn't understand and didn't know what to respond. So please make sure that your kid should learn the home language first so that interaction with the outside world is easy for him/her. They will learn English eventually.

Why is this an issue? It’s common in families where the parents are from different regions in India and English is the only common language of education.

Not an issue, but somehow I find it strange. Wanted to understand how common this is.

why do you think this is common? Is it because of mother tongue difference between parents?

I speak English outside home only, but if I try to speak with my family, it feels little strange and also lacks emotions.

This is becoming very common in metro cities these days.. we are moving towards using only one language which is not required. Atleast at home we should stop talking in English...
