HM makes me feel cheap
After finishing all the rounds of interviews, I reached out to get the feedback. The reply was "In order to make a decision, we need to interview some more candidates. So it may take some more time". Very well said and nothing wrong here. But let me tell you how I feel.
- Feeling objectified - I am an option for the company. They want to try more and then make a decision.
- They certainly think - okay we got this, but we deserve better.
Do you think I would really want to join some organisation when they didn't believe in me? Just say you didn't meet our standards. I really don't want to join knowing they hired me because they couldn't find anyone better. Feels disgusting. Makes me feel I am the worst. When did suddenly a respectable Software Engineering job became prostitution?

Hey @AabrakaGaghra You may be overthinking here. It's definitely not seeming like prostitution.
A lot of larger companies have to interview enough people before submitting a hiring recommendation to the committee. That may be why the HM said that?
Or they are just waitlisting you. Hope it's the first one.,

Nah man. You are overthinking things here. Sure the HM was tactless there. It's dumb to say more than necessary and it wasn't necessary for HM to say he wants to interview more.
But that's life. Enough people join companies only because they couldn't crack better ones. If you find a better opportunity, you go for it. If you don't feel like joining these guys, don't. Even if they send you an offer, you are free to keep them on hold and look for better ones. It's just business.

Sad situation, the culture in india is really bad. They even publicly call us resources, smh.

in the same boat as you, but since we are going to get 'paid' for the job we do. It's completely normal.
Let's assume you are hosting a big function for your family and you are in charge of the catering. You would definitely want to prove your best, and make sure you try out different shops and get quotes and then you would make a final decision right?
To each of the shop you visit,
- You don't like the food, you reject
- You like the food, so you would say hey I have this xyz fn coming, would u be willing to do so? And you would ask them a discount as well since it's a large order.
Let's assume you just visited 2 shops in total, would you be willing to make the decision so fast? No right? Because you want to choose the best caterer for the function.
Would the hotel owners feel their profession is prostitution as well? No right? You are just doing the best for your family's function.
Now replace hotel with vehicle shopping, dress shopping, deciding which schools/college, etc.,
These are just choices one evaluates before making the right decision for them or their environment.

Hmmm .. I just wanted to say there could have been better ways to judge a technologist. There are many measurable metrics. Programming assignment, analytical thinking, etc.
