Helping backfired

So, I decided to help someone in need of a job as he had been struggling for 2 years.i helped him with resume, communication skills, technical skills. During this journey,he started taking me for granted as if I was his personal assistant. He asked me to recharge his mobile, book his train tickets. Help with his personal matters and what not. One day I had to scold him as he had been calling continuously at my work and at my home. Is this how it works? . I tried to help him because he was jobless for long time and in turn he expects me to do all his work.
