Help Needed - Money vs Peace
Hey Guys,
I just left my previous company and joined a startup providing me up to a 42% hike on the current base. It’s been nearly a month, but it feels like the work culture is quite different from my last company.
People believe more in shipping than building.
I earlier had a mindset to join FAANG, but when I received the offer, I didn’t think much and joined it.
I am thinking of moving back to my previous company for some time, but the hike they are offering is negligible.
Do you think money is everything, or should I stay and leave within the next 6 months for FAANG?
Since I had complete context about the environment, I was comfortable with the kind of work I was doing in my previous company. Plus, it’s a hybrid model, so switching in the future would be easy.

I am going to be bluntly honest so hear me out. Why do you need peace so early in your life? Do you have a family to manage? You are young and energetic and have good strength to endure stress at work. Make it count as much as you can until you get married. Startups are the place where you can earn the most. After you get settled, you can think about having some peace and shift to FAANG or relatively stable company.
In startup, there is always going to be more shipping then building because they need to be constantly on the top and ship features every now and then to stay relevant and raise more money in the future. They don't care about code quality much unless they become a well established business. If I give you an example, initially when Razorpay was still at a startup stage, a significant amount of code was written in PHP because that's what their founders were comfortable with. Once they reached a sizable business growth, now they are optimizing the performance of the system and the code is being migrated from PHP to Golang. That's what I've heard.

Being Devil's advocate here
Do you know amount of stocks FAANG give? Startups give hope in form of paper money, the amount of perks FAANG give will increase value so much that startup won't be able to actually match.

Not challenging you, just want your perception about it.

I would like to work for FAANG too 🙂 but don't know how 🙂
