Help me to make a decision regarding my current company

Hi, I joined Deloitte USI on 11th August 2025, which is this year. I was on the bench for more than two months. Around a month ago, near the Diwali holidays, I was onboarded onto a new project. I took up that project because I had already been on the bench for over two months, and the department manager also pressured me to accept it since my utilization was zero. So I accepted the project even though I had no prior experience in it.

This project is related to EBS R12, specifically the Supply Chain Management module. I don’t have experience in either EBS R12 or the supply chain module. My experience is in Oracle Cloud applications, mainly Service Cloud—like OFSC and Oracle B2B Fusion Service Cloud. However, in this new project, I have been assigned work only in the service module of EBS R12, not the cloud applications.

For the first month, I focused on understanding the project and the application. Now, I understand much more than when I joined. I understand the project, the workflows, and the application—especially the service module. So it’s not like I am sitting idle; I have put in the effort to learn. But even after more than a month on this project, the manager is still not giving me any tasks. So far, he has only given me 2–3 tasks, and even those were assigned with the instruction to collaborate with someone else.

I received KT from one of my colleagues, and she was very helpful. But now, most discussions are related to procurement and other supply chain topics, where I have very limited experience. I think that is why I’m not being included in other meetings or assigned work. This makes me feel completely useless in the project, as if I am not contributing at all.

Today, I finally received a task after a very long time. I was asked to prepare two functional documents, and I prepared them. But even this task was given by a colleague who is at the same level as me—another consultant. I was happy to receive some work at least, but the task itself felt like grunt work that anyone could do.

My concern is that I am not getting any meaningful work and I am feeling like a stupid person here. I was hired by Deloitte for an Oracle Field Service Cloud–related project, but when I joined, that project got closed by the client for reasons I don’t know. Because of that, I stayed on the bench for over two months. I joined Deloitte specifically for OFSC-related projects, and now I’ve been assigned to a domain that does not match my experience or expertise.

So now I am thinking about interviewing with another company. Two days ago, an HR from another company called me and asked if I was interested in a job change. At that time, I said no because I had recently joined Deloitte just three months earlier. So the conversation didn’t continue. But now I am thinking about asking that HR to schedule an interview.

I’m unsure whether this is the right decision. One of my friends, who worked with me in my previous company, also joined Deloitte and left after 4–5 months to join Accenture Strategy. I was thinking of doing the same—moving to Accenture Strategy—because the level of work I’m getting here is very minimal, or sometimes no work at all. I feel completely useless, and I’m the only one on the entire project who has no real contribution.

It’s not that my manager is at fault. He understands that I don’t have supply chain experience or EBS R12 experience, so he knows I cannot contribute much at the moment. But without assigning me work, how will I learn? Someone has to give me tasks so I can understand what is actually happening in the project.

Earlier, I had offers from both Deloitte USI and Accenture Strategy. At that time, Accenture Strategy offered me only a 33% hike, while Deloitte USI offered me over a 100% hike. Naturally, I decided to join Deloitte. But on the last day, Accenture Strategy HR called me and agreed to match Deloitte’s offer and even offered a ₹2 lakh joining bonus. However, her tone felt very harsh and arrogant, so I didn’t join Accenture Strategy.

Now I am regretting my decision. Deloitte USI is a very good company with a good work culture and many perks. Salary is also good. The work-life balance is a bit bad, but overall the company is good. The only problem is that the projects I’m getting are not aligned with my experience or expertise.

So at this point, I am unsure what to do. Should I ask Accenture Strategy to schedule an interview? If I leave Deloitte so early, I’ll have to return the joining bonus. And leaving a company in less than a year doesn’t look good on a résumé either. I am very confused about what I should do at this stage. I feel like I am sitting duck in status calls.
