Help - How to go for internal transfer?

Hey folks, people who have internally transferred how do you go about it? How do you communicate with your team and HR?

I guess it totally depends upon your manager and your project. I was on an offsite project so i communicated this with my project manager that I want the transfer due to my personal issue then I mailed RMG regarding this and first thing he asked for is the approval of my project manager then after he got the approval from my project manager I was transferred to my desired location
