You don't need to return the old laptop. I also did the same and when my old laptop started having issues then I just raised a replacement request and got a new one in current location. The only thing is that they have tied up with DHL for returning laptops to different locations so whenever you are replacing the laptop you need to go to that specific DHL location and give them the laptop.

2nd question- And suppose I go to my hometown and apply for a transfer, but I want to go directly to the new location—will I have to go to the previous location to submit the laptop, or can I do it at the new location?
