Did your family member showed rental income in return? If no - Notice is expected as employer add rental entry in takers 26AS hence there will be mismatch

A little unrelated but folks remember that you can't show rent to your spouse in India, as per the law.

While you're showing rent to family, get a notarized rent agreement and declare all incomes. This little expense is better than getting a notice.

I pay rent to my father too and have claimed that in HRA, haven't received any notice. Just ensure that your family member is showing that amount in their rental income during their tax filing. You can also maintain rent agreement, rent receipts for backup to respond to the notice

HRA declaration

Has anyone ever received a notice from the Income Tax department for declaring an HRA component without giving the relevant proofs to their employer?

Guys working from home, how do you claim HRA?
