Hate the Mumbai narrative, selling dreams on the cost of basic quality of life
TL/DR: Rant ahead.
Mumbai isn’t a city. It’s a concept, packaged and sold to the entire country like it’s some god-tier land of opportunity. I think It’s a full-blown scam.
What you actually get in return for your overpriced rent and crushed dreams:
- Pothole-filled roads that could double up as moon craters.
- Open dump yards posing as neighborhoods.
- The stench? Ever-present. Pick your flavor: sewage, garbage, or stale sweat.
- Inconvenience is not just a bug, it's the feature that everyone takes pride in
- “Local trains” sold to us like some sales guy has been asked to sell a pen to an interviewer. Yes it's fast, but it sucks. Had any other mode been normal and fast, I would never step in the train ever.
- Struggle culture is glamorized to the point where low quality of life is romanticized. As if not having access to clean housing, peaceful sleep, or decent public spaces is some rite of passage.
- The food? Come on. Vada pav isn’t a personality.
- Rent? LOL. You’ll pay more for a rat-sized hole here than a 2BHK in a proper city. And half the time, you’re living in buildings that look like they’re one monsoon away from demolition, either by the authorities or sheer act of god
I don’t hate people who love Mumbai. And yeah people are nice. I have lived in Delhi, NCR, Pune and recently Bangalore. I have found nice people everywhere and some assholes too.
But at least we are calling out the hazardous air of Delhi, we are calling out goons demolishing cars in Bangalore, we are even calling out the terrible dating culture of Pune, but Mumbai? Oh let's lick it by the balls.
I hate the narrative that glorifies this madness as ambition. Dreams are great. But when a city sells them by gutting your basics, that’s not aspiration, that’s pure exploitation.
Hopefully won't stay here long.

In mumbai it just stands out due to the sheer density, but it's the same condition throughout the country.

This is exactly an example of how we justify shit with other shit.
"Just because there is a high population, that's why the garbage is on the road"
There will always be complex problems, but we need intent, not easy problems

How so? Whatever be the reason for Mumbai it offers the worst quality of life in India

Every city is going to have it’s pros and cons. At the end it’s for the person to choose what they want to tackle on a daily basis.

Man! What’s with Indians and their tendency to not hold authorities accountable?
Sabse pehla solution hi ye h- “dekh lo kya adjust kar sakte ho, uske hisaab se shehar chun lo”

Cuck janta 😔

Mumbai ain't for chic and colorful flags, it's for real people with ambition who will accept all type of hardship....I am born & raised here have seen people with low appetite come here for a while and then go and settle in other cities they can't take the sweet Hardship here...and then call it a Scam 😂...we call people like you Ls...if you think it is a scam then it is 🖤

I totally agree with u. I have lived all across India and nothing can beat Mumbai. Those who come and accept it they flourish and those who can't they perish

Lmao you just proved the OP's point. Keep glorifying the low quality life (so called "hardship") and keep getting more exploited

Mumbai is for Bollywood, not startups or MNCs 🤷♂️

Correct

That’s not even the point of this post. What are you on about?

One big truck load of Bullshit coming from a privileged craphouse. First of all, if there is any city in India that gives you a chance or a shot to become something without discriminating against your religion or caste or language its Mumbai. Go to Heera Panna market or crawford market and you will see a Jain marwadi guy sharing a shop with a muslim and both making it.
Dumpsters and garbage? Bro lol which country you living in? Except 2 3 micro clean cities this is a problem everywhere. Bangalore and delhi there are some streets you cant even walk.
Potholes again - corrupt BMC and yes we do call them out but its ubiquitous everywhere else too.
Nothing great comes from convenience boss, if you like comfort and no struggle it means u r a privileged asshole who has no respect for hustle and maybe hasnt seen real poverty.
Local trains are shit but do we have an option? You want money? You want your future generations to live in the safest place in the country? Then work your ass off and get a car.
- Clean housing, peaceful sleep, blah blah blah weakling privileged shit who has been born with silver spoon. I will show you clean housing and peaceful sleep in Mumbai too, but you gotta earn it.
- Vada pav is how people get by its a sign of how we dont stop. Same shit you do by eating protein bars (which are shitty cardboard)
- rat sized housing LOL looks like OP hasnt travelled or knows of house sizes in Manhattan or Tokyo or HK or Singapore. Shows small exposure.
Please go back and live in "peace" while we achieve and make real stuff for you.

Oh my my. Sooo true! 😂 Returned to hometow this March after spending 6 months in Mumbai. Haven't hated a place as much as I hated Mumbai!

mumbai is too overrated. the lifestyle is basically for celebs and not for middle class.

I agree 100%. Nothing should be glorified in this country. Everything is just falling apart. The Buildings, roads, every single thing. No city is liveable and breathable. The politicians are only filling up their pockets. It's a shame for everyone. New roads are breaking after a pour of rain. Rents have increased as if everyone is earning a crore monthly. The facilities remain the same. Transports are on the verge of losing their balance.
No city is now building a dream, it is only providing a struggling life. Everyone is just exhausted

had some friend who were from mumbai they used to glamorized the local trains and say in mumbai everyone seems to be in a rush (ghai) and say they use to miss that rush culture here in bangalore, i called them out a lot dude but that type of local train rush culture by itself is bad lifestyle, but they missed the vibes from their HOME.
This year they moved back to mumbai

Aap pehle Mumbai me rehke dekhiye tab compare kariye

Yes miss ma'am I agree that one need not stay at a place to make judgements around what's right and wrong and learn from others experience and therefore your own argument is applicable to you as well. Please read your comments and see if you yourself can make any sense out of those!? You just sound like you're frustrated and upset. And btw traveling in a compact local train doesn't count as someone who's hustling or not doing well in life. Most high earning individuals across Mumbai take those local trains. Maybe do some research before spewing hate towards people and other states jab khud k ghar me he daal na pakk rahi ho.
