Has anyone skipped taxes for other income & remain unnoticed?

I am talking about non cash transaction and income is from a company not person. I’ve only heard the tale that it’s fine to skip as we’re not big fish and given the population, only certain automated triggers can get u noticed. Mostly it’s cash deposits or so, just wondering if someone has been fine skipping such income for tax and never gotten into trouble?
