Trending @Infosys; H1B Visa Trap
How many are trapped in Infosys, just because you have valid H1B visa and no onsite project.
I'm one of them. I got picked in 2023 Lottery after completing all the process and stamping in Q1 2024 with no real hope or news waiting for an onsite opportunity.
I am not able to move out of the company because if I drop paper & New onsite opportunity comes, it might go to the next person because I have dropped paper. Since in my domain more than Talent, Management support is needed.
Just a frustration after spending the past 3 years in Infosys with no hikes & and promotion.

exactly how it work?... when H1B visa assignment is initiated for Visa approval by your manager they will assign with the client onsite project right?
my manager has initiated the assignment but still yet to accept from my side? it is showing the project name and location.. but it's not completed and approved yet... does this mean it will only approved but will not send u onsite?

Yes. They map you to a project that doesn't necessarily mean you have an onsite opportunity. There's alot more process to be done for your case! I don't remember the exact details. But one thing I know is if there is an onsite opportunity, they wouldn't wait so long for approvals. Everything happens so fast and you will be gone onsite even before you know! If it's taking time then there are less hopes!

i just received my assignment at 5 sept . and end of whole process tentative date showing 20 nov .

This got me thinking whether the roles/seniority really increase the chance of getting selected for an opportunity or not. Suppose if my project manager, my lead, and myself got selected in the lottery and got stamped at the same time. So, the PM will have more chances to reach the US compared to my lead and myself, who might be a system engineer? Is there any fairness to this 'chances' internally as all three of us got selected purely based on luck only?
It depends on the management 90% if they are willing to send you no one can stop irrespective of your job position & seniority.
Also higher job level is sometime a advantage since the onsite opening are very limited and for manager post mostly which require JL5 & Above. It's gives an edge over others. But as I said if management want they can send anyone.

Okay, I was in same situation. Got my stamping done , followed up with my manager, DM etc etc. I did not see any progress so I dropped papers. Soo. after I dropped I got two onsite requirements. and One of them for a stack I wasn't working on. I am still in notice period and I am still getting onsite offer. So decide what you want to do. It is high time
Interesting to hear, I'm confused in between. So you're getting onsite now after dropping paper but not in your work/domain related. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also Still waiting for right opportunity onsite as well as trying to switch if the conditions are good in india.

Had H1B from 2016, stayed at onsite for 2.5 years, came back and now moved out last year. Managers did not know (or rather did not care) that I could opt for out of cap anytime.
The discussion came up 10 days before my LWD.
Onsite is a laddu. If your end goal is to switch after landing in foreign land, all the best and keep pushing managers. Else, move on and find something better here to at least avoid the itch that you're being underpaid.

Same here

Onsite = 90% chances of being set in atrap
