Guys and gals in automation testing

Do you feel you are stuck in an endless loop of maintenance and refactoring while other teams spot bugs and win the points. Also, coming to the salaries I feel testing and automation testers are very much hyped but comparatively the salaries are less. Comment your thoughts.
