[Guide] How Promotions work in TCS

Promotions happen at your project WON's expenditure. Your immediate manager initiates the promotion, then it goes to the reviewer, then to the Unit HR and finally to the Unit HR Head

Once initiated, it does not get expired.Your reviewer or program manager sends out a list of associates to be promoted on every promotion cycle to the Unit HR .This is called offline recommendation.only associates in this list will get promoted in that particular quarter

The rest of them are told that promotion is pending at HR end and then again the list goes next quarter and those on the list get promoted. so it doesn't matter if your promotion has been initiated, you have to be on the recommendation of your managers to get promoted.

If you are critical for the project then you might get promoted else the managers would always try to save the WON's expenses and say your promotion is pending at HR.

Your manager will often simply initiate promotion but not give recommendation. He will lie that he doesnt have control he pushed it very very very hard for you but HR/Unit is considering multiple parameters. DONT BELIEVE HIM.

The difficulty of getting promotion increases with the role. Eg. These days for C3A to C3B promotion , one should not be an MLT defaulter.

It also depends on how many associates are there in that role already under your manager. Eg if you want to get promoted to C3A and if already many C3As are there, it will be harder.

@TidyGrin0 its a scam you are told. No revision ever happens at TCS. No change at all and managers usually give all these lies and fake excuses to show that they care.

Today my manager said the same thing, he has initiated, the supervisor approved it and it is pending with HR. I talked to another manager (old project) and he said every cycle manager can initiate, HRs list is refreshed every quarter. It means that if you didn't get it this quarter then again they need to initiate in the next quarter.

Yes . that recommendation from your manager has to go to HR.

What is the promotion hike from C1 to C2? Is there any advantage to waiting for that? Thanks!

Don't expect any timeline for promotion...looks to me they are intentionally suffocating certain promotions to increase attrition in that range and make pyramid structure for example c3a&b...increase competency and switch...TCS is toughest company nowadays to work..

HR is considering 100% RTO compliance for promotion?

FuzzyMarshmallow

As per the policy. Less than 60% is considered non compliant for rewards like promotion

My manager was initiated my promotion in last quarter. And now coming back and telling me like 3 years in TCS mandatory to get promotion?

FuzzyMarshmallow

If he wants to promote you, he can promote you before that too.

3 years, RTO, etc are just lame reasons.
