Guidance on Toxic Work Environment and Project Release
I have been working in Hyderabad for the last six years on the same project and in the same role. Due to my aging parents, I need to travel to Kolkata every alternate month. Recently, the project environment has become very toxic, with regionalism being promoted. Any issues that arise are attributed to my not being regularly present at the location. I am unsure how to make the environment more positive and work-friendly. If that is not possible, I would like to know how I can be released from the project. Although it seems straightforward, when I requested to be released, the project team was not willing to let me go. Additionally, there are 15 team members from Kolkata who share similar feelings about the situation.
Wanted to understand what is an employee rights interms of location change request when they have all the medical documents. Can HR push back saying project requirement and employees can't be released. Do we have any ombudsman or escalation path to get the issue resolved.

Bhai leave TCS

Focus on skill development become org independent.. Then you will find answer yourself and you will approach the problem more courageously .. If you have fair reason speak to HR directly and raise your concerns .. If not heard raise grievance in system

How to raise grievance in system?

I have been in similar situations previously except that I was not in need of transfer.
Promotions in TCS is very rare after C3B or C4.
Also if you are the manager of the project then you have no choice until you find a replacement for yourself.
Check if someone is interested to take your role in your project or from common pool. That s the only way out.

Raise grievance

I needed to shift to another tcs location very badly due to health issues with my parent as well. My project and manager had no issues with me reporting from anywhere as my team is working from various locations anyway and as long as I get the work done. So I had applied for a transfer request last year Nov. They came up with reasons like, you need to complete 2 years.
So I went through the hr policy like anyone else where it was mentioned clearly that transfer is possible if it is a medical emergency of self or parents. And so I submitted medical cert. of my parent and after multiple back and forth of enquiring for updates with the request, they told me these documents are not enough, and that they need prescriptions, detailed medical investigation etc. It took them fricking 3-4 months just to tell me this. If they had told me sooner, I could have planned things accordingly.
So I've realized policy on paper is finally open to interpretation to whatever hr thinks is agreeable.
They have no empathy and don't care about our well-being. If you connections with higher ups and maintain a good relationship with hr, they get things done faster for you.
Not every case is same, since I hadn't completed 2 years.. They were playing with me. Maybe you can try for a transfer to Kolkata location. If you have a good hold with the higher ups, mayb things are done faster.
