Growth pov: Frontend vs Backend developer?

Hi, I am a fresher I have recently joined a startup as a sde-1. However, while having a talk with my manager, I got to know that I will only be getting to work on frontend and will rarely get any chance to work on backend.( due to lack of fe dev in the company) Will this effect my career growth as a software engineer in fullstack? I have have industry exp of 7-8 months in FE, but want to become a fullstack dev. I don't want to be stuck at FE. Since this is just the beginning of my career, is it too soon to think this way? Should I focus on mastering FE skills? Or should I practice /learn BE side by side(v difficult as working hrs are crazy). Just need people with 4-5+ years of experience opinion. Thanks for reading 😀

Focus on FE mastering
Learn BE side by side
Just chill. 🍀

I believe both has their advantage and disadvantage, start with anyone and try to master it.
In software development it's not important what language/tools/degree you know but important is how fast you can learn/adapt with new things and how well you understand the product and how well you can communicate with others and how well you can plan things and put them into actions.

One day requirement can be to build a page from scratch in a week next requirement can be to tweak a API for new requirement and next requirement to setup a new infra for image optimisation so that FE can serve image fast or find out how to load a page fast(this task will cover everything FE/BE/INFRA/DB)

Don't get overwhelm by new things just be curious and learn everything as you can. Congratulations for your first job. Give it sometime you will automatically understand your path by yourself.

PS: Be like 🧽, absorb your peers knowledge.

Unrelated, but is your startup currently hiring for another fresher role(frontend)?

Hey man, not any current openings for freshers. Might update here, if any roles come up!

Bro give time to yourself and the stack, prefer quality over quantity.

You said it urself, u don't want to be stuck in FE. Since ure early in ur career, upskilling should be a priority. Find time (maybe weekends or after work) to learn backend. After a few years of experience in both, u can then decide if u want to master one or continue both

Yes, too soon to think this way. FE is too vast to master in sometime. Since ur goal is fullstack, try to keep some practice of backend off work. Or just see what u’ll be asked in ur next potential company that can offer u fullstack role.
