Grapevine side-effects

I used to be very happy about my work life. Once I started using grapevine, seeing all the salaries posted by everyone, I started thinking I am very underpaid. At first I thought this was natural, but this has started to disturb my work life. I used to put a lot of effort into my job, but now a days i started to think about at what cost?

All the whining posts about salaries, esops, perks etc., made me think everyone is going thru the same thing. I had all the lost interest in genuine mental skills to complete a task, focus and small milestones etc. Though my appraisals were good, this level of comparison is holding me back.

I have the following questions -

  1. Are the salaries posted by everyone are genuine or they are just some fake numbers ( I have seen few people do that just to make others feel bad)
  2. Is there anyone feeling the same way I do? How are you taking it?

PS: The intention of this post is to get some positive comments to continue using gv. My plan was to uninstall and see if I could get back my earlier life.

Thanks in advance!

GV shud have channels where people can bond with like minded and option for users to block salary posts from their feeds.

Salary posts are like the titillating reels for GV. They get traction and popup on everyone's feeds without them opting to.

Better yet, bring in salary verification like company verification and the posts will soon evaporate 😆

I think this is very similar to Instagram! People posting are trying to get attention or definitely flex.
There will always be outliers and whatever level you reach, someone is always going to be better than you!

The point of using such apps is making sure you are aware of where the market trends are not to be disappointed about it!

Not that I don't feel the same way! I think everybody's starting point is different and there is no way we can do a fair comparison. On top of that, there is a factory of luck involved, which is not going to be the same over the long run!

"Comparison is the thief of joy"

If you see someone else's salary as a dream salary then rest assured there will be 100s if not 1000s for who your current salary is a dream salary.

One needs to keep upskilling and networking but one should also always remain grateful for where they are.

People measure success with the money you earn these days. It never used to be like that historically, this is why teachers used to be respected the most and kings used to bow down and send their princes off to them to study. Due to western concept of capitalism and showbiz, now your worth is measured in amount of currency you make in a year (where people sometimes get lucky, sometimes "networking" helps them grow, sometimes just because they get into a fancy tech who no one knows and hence pays well for 5-10 years with zero problem solving skills). All of this will come crumbling down once de-dollarization takes it full form and then only the true knowledgeable people will remain, until then let everyone minting 40 lakhs think they are successful. No hate to anyone, this is just a take on how modern world and society behaves these days.
