Why do projects ask for your grade ..why does a grade system exist and how does it affect the project

TCS projects follow pyramid structure mostly.

A C4 needs to have some number of C3B,
A C3B needs to have some number of C3A. A C3A needs to have some number of C2.
(I dont know the exact ratio but there is a ratio)

If they already have a good number of seniors(C3B, C3A), if a new person with a similar grade joins it would affect the existing ratio.
