Got to ask..
If managing people paid the same as IC work, how many managers do you think would still choose management? Would you (if you are in people management)? Be honest.
A lot of managers choose management not because of salary, but due to other factors.
Especially in software industry, many people go into management because they don't have good enough technical skills to do senior IC roles like Architect, Staff, or Principal engineer.
Others go into management because they get bored or tired of the continuous technical learning treadmill required for technical IC roles.
Some go into management, because they genuinely like people management more than technical work.
Many go into management because beyond a certain level, there are no technical roles available in organizations to grow into, and moving to management is necessary for further growth and promotions.
Getting better salary by being in management is a side-effect for a lot of people, not the primary reason for doing it.
