Got Selected… Then Silence. What’s Happening?
Happy Holi, everyone!
I wanted to share a small situation and get some perspective.
I have been actively searching for new opportunities and keeping my profile updated regularly. Recently, I received a call from the HR team at "State Street". They liked my profile and proceeded with the interview process.
I cleared both rounds (L1 & L2), and afterward, HR informed me that the Hiring Manager and the team were happy with my performance. I was told that I had been selected over another candidate who was also in consideration for the role. We even discussed compensation, annual benefits, and the overall structure. HR mentioned that it would take about 3–4 days to get the final internal approvals and also requested that I stay committed to this opportunity and avoid attending other interviews in the meantime.
However, it has now been a week, and I haven’t received any further updates. I tried calling the HR representative, and he mentioned he would get back to me in 30 minutes as he was in the middle of something, but I haven’t heard back since.
As someone relatively new to switching jobs, I’m starting to feel a bit worried. Is it common for companies to take longer than expected for final approvals? Has anyone experienced something similar before?
I would really appreciate your thoughts and guidance. Should I still stay hopeful, or consider moving forward assuming things may not work out?
Thank you in advance!

In your case, they may have finalized some other/internal/reference candidate who may be closer to the requirement and moreover, it can be he/she agreed with a lesser package then you for the sake of cost cutting. Also, the hiring managers keep the equivalent candidates on hold until they find another candidate, once finalized they will send an email of rejection. I am not discouraging you but, let's keep the hope. Maybe you will hear something good, if not then move on. Always remember - one door closes, another opens. Just keep trying and attend the interviews.

Yep, I agree. Let's see how it goes. Btw thank you for this.
