Got rejected by YC after 8 attempts.
Was building LLMs for finance and here is my demo: https://project-hermes-ai.vercel.app
Did so many things… but no avail. Now I can either double down on that and try to sell to B2B like Banks or others who don’t trust OpenAI with their data but wants on-premises LLMs with custom data pipelines.
Now I can either double down or just curious should I start building an open-source version of perplexity. The CEO of perplexity seems to be doing more press than any real improvements. Also I think I can build more features.

It's hard to say without looking at the pitch deck and how you sell it. Just curious , what are your and your co-founders' credentials ?
My close friend startup (incubated in EF) and got picked by YC , which I'm certain mainly owing to the eye-catching credentials.
Worked for 2 YC startups, he sold his first startup for $700k... No prestigious university
Ah, okay. My impression is that YC gives a lot more weight to credentials than the idea itself. Perhaps try to get a co-founder with a fancy degree if you are still interested in the YC tag

Ya I agree the only way to monetize this is by using ads model.
Taxation in India is very complex. You can easily get free users and data if you build an ai agent that can do your work.
Rent receipts, creation, interest calculation from account staments etc.
You should build one on top of AA framework.
Gain users and gain monetary traction. Then see many folks will come.

LlamaIndex, NextJs, Assistants API from OpenAI, Vertex AI from Google … lot of experiments
They are lot of similar things exist. Like chat with pdf etc
