Got an offer from Newton School for SDE + SME (Instructor) — should I join? Hey folks, I just received an offer from Newton School for the role listed as SDE + SME (Instructor). I’m trying to figure out if this is a good move for my career.
A few key things I’m thinking about:
The role is more of an instructor/subject matter expert type position, not a typical Software Engineer role. I do want to move back into a core SWE role within ~1 year — will this experience help or hurt my chances? I’m wondering what kind of work environment, growth, and skill development I can expect there.
Questions for you all:
Has anyone worked as an instructor/SME at Newton School? What was your experience like?
Will this role give me solid software engineering experience, or is it more teaching-focused?
If I want to switch to a SWE role after 1 year, will this position be seen as valuable or will it make switching harder?
Would you recommend joining, or should I wait for a more traditional dev role?
Any honest experiences, opinions, or advice would be super helpful. Thanks!
