Hello there, the culture going down is not a fairy tale.

It will also depend on your current team. If most are much more tenured, you will be used as focus candidate next time.

To take a proper approach you need to connect with people who are currently doing a similar role or even in the same team. Ask them tough questions to understand the culture.

In amazon it is not about money. Your hikes are also going to be a bit nonexistent if there are tenured folks and even more impacted if the current team acts like a family business.

Will I rejoin amazon if I could turn back time and go back 3 years? Absolutely not. Not even for 100% hike.

If your current situation allows you to hustle for a year or two for long term growth then go for it.

Beware of the golden handcuffs with companies like amazon. Initially, you will be grateful for the opportunity so you’ll give your 150% to prove yourself.

That’ll be the baseline you will start getting evaluated against, and because its unsustainable to keep performing at that effort, you’ll quickly burnout. This will not make you quit though because of the aforementioned “golden handcuffs” of stock vesting, increment and lifestyle creep - which will make you keep working there until your mental health suffers.

All this to say, your experience depends on your team but company cultures build reputation in the market because there definitely is some truth to it.

It’s never worth it, especially the night shifts
