Google products getting worse

Is it me or do you also feel that multiple google services are deteriorating. Have experienced that the quality of music on YouTube music is so bad that I have been changing songs very frequently.

Also, google maps is showing multiple wrong and risky routes from Ooty to Bangalore. Even showed wrong directions inside Bangalore.

Google search sucks now.. it has been gamed by "SEO" companies

Not really. Google search has been fucked by paid ads taking majority of search results space . Most ads are not relevant. SEO is still relevant

Have been using MapMyIndia for quite some time now. Directions are better. Only thing I miss is the reviews of places in G-maps

The only person who uses map my India for navigation is their ceo

I think Sundar Pichai has been pretty bad for them. Google has gone from an innovative company to a company known for killing products. Which other company has a famous known site like this : https://killedbygoogle.com/.

Products are killed quickly. Take Stadia for example, killed within 2 years when it started getting popular. You can see the list above. They don't take much risks or experiment anymore. They were leaders in AI but didn't have the guts to release it to the public like ChatGPT or even freaking Microsoft (they released an AI twitter bot, which became Nazi racist in 2 days but they tried and learned from it). Or take Google Cloud. They killed inbuilt Istio mesh support in GKE and gave like 8 months to implement alternatives or manage it yourself. Or Google Domains sold to squarespace. You'd never expect Azure or AWS to kill products so soon. Azure gives like 3 years notice and I've rarely seen AWS sunsets anything. Google thinks all their customers have money, resources and time budget to implement these changes soon like they themselves have. The truth is they don't. It's expensive. It's irritating. Your direct consumers and your enterprise/corporate consumers stop trusting you to support your new products.

Yeah, their share value has been going up due to things like more ads on Google search (half a page is now like ads) or more YouTube ad videos. But that's short term gain over long term loss as reduced experimentation in R&D.

Their recruiters F’ed them by overhiring. They were so greedy to get their refferal and hiring incentives that they leaked all questions of an interviewer. By the time sundar realised this, it was too late. Now they have to fire folks to clean the dirt

Did this really happen?

I would say Google sucked for years now. It's not a recent development.

I need to use Google Chat at work as it's pushed down my throat. I don't know of any other chat product in 2023 that cannot hyperlink a word! Meanwhile they are still experimenting with perfectly working "threads".

Last month I was on a long trip, Google maps will simply stop navigating. I selected the destination again, it works for another minute or so, after that same problem again. It was so annoying, sad to see such a trusted product going down like that.

The times Pichai used the word "AI" in I/O vs. Tim Cook in WWDC tells them they are always playing catch-up. Pichai needs to get his act together!
