Go to US or stay in India

I'm currently living in India, but I have a valid H-1B US visa. I recently got two job offers - Company A is offering $130K per year in US, while Company B is offering Rs. 75 lacs (all cash, no RSU/ESOP) in India.

Which one should I join? And why (post in comments) ?

on ppp terms its no brainer. 75 L >>> 130k

It's not a no-brainer. Maybe on paper/theory, Rs. 75 lacs is greater than $130K in ppp, but in reality it's not so much.

I have lived in the US earlier also, and because of the better quality of infrastructure and facilities there, a lot of new experiences and products are easily accessible there, that simply don't exist in India or are prohibitively expensive in India.

Plus, on 75 lacs salary or $130K, my annual savings are going to be roughly the same (around Rs. 30 lacs), while enjoying the much better infrastructure and quality of life in the US.

The downside is, that in US, I'll be far away from my parents and extended family who live in India.

That's why it is a conundrum.

Though 75 lakhs >> 130k usd but what about Good life for family, infra, health, clean air and Good food and Great work life balance + multiple future opportunities

I would say go , even if the offer is just food.

Too many "learned" people are talking too positive about India and its future. That means they are panicking. It also reflects in the number of people opting for different passport.

The same thing happened in China. The number of people leaving china peaked around 2010. The property collapse happened around 2018. Leaving big time losses. China is staring at a steep decline now.

We are not growing anymore. Either the collapse has started or we are close to the peak. The ladli yojanas are the proof for this.

When you get a chance run, run. The gates are about to close.

Money is not worth it if you don’t have loved ones to share it with.

FYI - I’m in the US, at that salary.

Btw, I have 2YOE, non tech - 15YOE? they’re underpaying you.

They are taking a chance by hiring someone from India to come to US… ofcourse things would have been different if he had US experience

I’m working as a Staff Engineer. Tech-wise I’m a full-stack engineer - Java, JS, Cloud.

Initially got my H1B and went onsite to US for limited time through consulting / WITCH company. Now new employer can transfer H1B and reclaim the time remaining within the 6 year limit of my H1B.

Got interviews and offer through referral from my friends working in the US.

Coming from 7+ years in Bay area; if 130K in region like Atlanta then go with wife, with kids might be trouble. If anywhere in SFO, you might want to pick a 2nd job + wife needs to work.

In India, 75L you can do anything, in 3-4 years you can save for a GLA & Shobha 4 BHK as well.

130k is poor money in US. Please dnt compare with avg income. 130k is poor.

FluffyKoala
FluffyKoala

130K is not great, but it's not poor either. Median household income in US is 80K, so half the country's households earns less than 80K.

So 130K gives you a comfortable middle-class lifestyle, and some savings, but of course you can't afford luxuries

I specifically told do not compare avg ( here median) income of US. People live there at 40k per annum also. Anyway - I think you are best to judge your circumstances.

We are all biased and give opinions through our own life choices and circumstances.

This is too big a decision for you to outsource to unknowns. I wish you all the best.
