Getting release from project and resigning.

Hi fellas.... I am having some confusions here. I have decided to switch from TCS once I get some offers from other companies. Now the project I am working on, I don't feel like it suits me. It's eating my patience everyday. Will there be any difference if I ask for release and then resign when I get another offer while on bench. ? Please add your thoughts
