Genuine question: Does anybody use Telegram for anything apart from stock tip groups/research groups/super large groups etc.?

Like is Telegram used by anyone to stay in touch with friends/family? Or is it a simpler Discord?

Me and my girlfriend (now wife) have been using it since 2016 due to lack of desktop client in other chat apps back then. Most of US based companies create telegram groups for chat rather than WhatsApp since you dont need to share phone number. My sister's company use it like slack.

Its a superb app, much better than WhatsApp IMO and definitely simpler than discord.

Use it for chatting! Much better cleaner interface than others, and their animated stickers are such fun

Get freaked out to open the app itself due to the "your contact is now using telegram" notifications. If you have OCD about having 0 notifications telegram is not for you.

Android rom development scene was huge on Telegram, I had 10K member group for my reverse engineered camera app.

Use it actively for talking to close friends. Started in college because GroupButler helped manage a group of 70 people and channels helped in selectively having subject wise content.

Selling point was actually the web app which didn’t need the phone to be connected to the internet and the higher file size limit to share data around.

Got used to that even after college & still using it to talk to a large set of friends!

No. Exactly like you said. Smaller discord and maybe dms to people from those groups.
