Future of SWEs
Will SWE Still be the top paid and widely available job in tech 10 years from now? Or will it be Product Manager, Data Scientist or something else?
None of them unless you are really among 0.01% best performer after 5 years. 10 years is too far fetched....
If you are in league if Ilya Sutskever or John Carmack, your pay will increase 10-100x but if you are not, you will become as good as daily wage labourer.
Google is releasing Gemini this October... And you will know why

The same was said when ides were launched with auto complete.
The fact that people don't understand limitations of llm models is disappointing. The tools for development will surely change but the requirements for problem solvers will still be there.

He means there is limitation to llm models .they can't understand exact business understanding like human brains

OP asking about 2 things.
- top paid -> maybe
- Widely available -> I don't think so... coz if 1 engineer is doing 10x or 100x work, it's not clear

No point asking these questions over here. Most of the folks are inexperienced freshers or undergrads.
They will predict a negative outcome.

"Even in 1977-78, there were programme generators that had come in and so everybody feared for jobs but that didn't happen. Because the human mind is the most flexible instrument. So, it was then used to help bigger problems with human creativity and tech together". 👆👆 This is the comment of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. A highly paid job means subjective but I believe we can earn pretty well considering the knowledge gained over the years.

definitely blue collar job given the abundance of folks and AI on the horizon

- It will still be top paid (or one of them).
- Not sure if we will have the same number of people doing what we call software engineering today.
