I'm a late sleeper too. One of the biggest reasons I built my own startup is because I wanted to set my own work timings 🤷♂️
Work only happens in the afternoon/evening anyways for most people. It's all commute and breakfast/lunch and catching up on emails and conversations/meetings till then for most days of the week in most companies I've seen.
What I do instead is wake up around 12 or 1, get straight to work (because WFH), lunch around 4 or 5 (no breakfast), another work sprint, then dinner around 10-11. Exercise 2-3 times a week is enough.
Of course, it's a completely flexible schedule so i can work , eat and chill whenever I like. Just need to arrange my work around meetings and deadlines. That does mean waking up early occasionally for important meetings and travel as well.
But WLB truly is a myth if you're trying to build something valuable, meaningful and long term.
If your excuse is that you'd work harder if you had esops or bonuses, ask for them or make them happen. Create that much value that you become indispensable.
Or just start your own startup 😉
