FUCK Equal Employment Opportunity
There is no such thing as equal opportunity. There never was. There never will be.
Don't agree?? Okay read this - "We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law" Remember how its plastered in every offer letter and job posts online? Beautiful words. Until you walk into the office.
Not that we do any justice to not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law We do even worse. The newest laptops go to the tenured. The used ones go to contractors. The "core team" gets MacBooks; the "others" get what's left. Different ID cards. Different ribbons. Different seating zones. Reserved parking for leadership. Overflow parking for the rest. Town halls where only a few can speak. "Core" gets the swag, the one who is employed from third party gets the silence. Invitations to offsites for those who are inhouse talent. Full-time, permanent, on rolls. Birthdays of "key people" are announced on Slack, others just happen quietly. Even query response time has priority (beat that) I could go on... And yet everyone pretends it's SO SO SO normal.
Sure, some of this has operational logic - security access, cost centers, vendor policy. I get it. I really do. But when did policy become culture? When did efficiency quietly turn into social hierarchy? When did a workplace start looking like a caste system with air-conditioning? People don't file complaints about this. They just stop feeling proud. They stop belonging. And that's how culture and the org dies. slowly but painfully.
Next time you dare print that line in your job post or offer letter, read it again. Next time you accept an offer as a third party, a contractor, etc.. read that job post or offer letter again.. Because what they meant was: "We never said we will not discriminate through laptops, ID colors, meeting invites, seating charts, parking spots, floor access, travel class, swag kits, mic time, tone of voice, who gets tagged on mails, who joins the offsite, who gets visibility in decks, who gets copied on feedback loops, who gets thanked publicly, who sits closest to the boss, who gets the ergonomic chair, who gets to speak first in meetings, or who the company chooses to remember. Neither do we promise.. We will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. We will do, as is convenient to us. PERIOD."
They just said "equal opportunity" and we TOTALLY bought it.
One interview, 1000+ job opportunities
Take a 10-min AI interview to qualify for numerous real jobs auto-matched to your profile 🔑Thanks for explaining this so vividly. I work in a startup so for us the floor is open. I can walk into the CEO's office without an appointment. BTW I had applied for a Consultant role at Deloitte. Are consultants on company payroll?

Humans are biased by nature. They are biased to power and their very nature is shaped to that of obedience to people in power and money. Why do you even expect anything in return.

Would you mind naming thr company so that we can avoid.

Its everywhere in India, specially in WITCH companies

"Caste system with Air-conditioning" 🤯

Key phrase - "protected by law" - as long as there are ways around legal limits, discrimination would exist, unfortunately.

Equal opportunity is essentially a PR gimmick. No one actually believes that at employee level. There's discrimination everywhere. Judging specially abled equivalent to other people without giving them any aids. Talking about maternity leave but resetting promotion cycle when you take one. List is endless. Companies wanna do PR work. Right people know the truth.

I hear you.
I wish this could be possible equally for all.
Humans are divided by emotions, and united by thinking of emotions.
Hard truth to say, the world works behind this only Give and Take.
Better to lock-in and grow internally and appreciate to help others. Outside is this only never changed nor is going to.
Philanthropist is a term that makes sense when everything is achieved. Not for everyone

Your organization is messed up. The place I used to work at distributed laptops based on the usage and requirement.
Interns got what was left and that's how it should be. There was no pay bias, we got paid by the hour based on what's in our DSR, not based on what's in our pants.
