From a Small Room to a Big Dream

I come from a poor family of four. We lived in a single room house. I studied in a government school, in a regional language medium, and got just 51% in my 12th standard.

I joined a tier-3 college for BCA. The college fee was ₹18,000 per year, but even that was tough for my family. My dad had to take a loan to support my education. We spent around ₹1 lakh in total for the 3 years. I had a few arrears during college, but I cleared all of them in the final semester.

After graduation, I didn’t get a job. I worked at a small food shop for a few months, then got into a BPO job for ₹9,000 per month in 2019. During that time, I applied for the TCS National Qualifier Test, cleared the exam and interview, and got a job offer for ₹18,000 per month. That was a big step for me.

I worked at TCS for 2.5 years, then joined a top asset management bank with a ₹5.5 LPA salary. After 2 years there, I moved to another company with a ₹17 LPA offer.

Now, I’ve received an offer from a well-known product-based company with ₹28 LPA base salary, 10% bonus, and ₹20–30 lakhs worth of stocks.

It still feels like a dream. A ₹2 lakh monthly salary was once something I couldn’t even imagine. My family is so happy.

I’m sharing this because I know there are many others like me. If you’re struggling don’t give up. If I can do it, you can too. Keep believing in yourself.

The best part is, I'm only 25 years old and I've achieved all this in a short span of time. I had no network, and while some of my friends are driving auto rickshaws or working as delivery partners.

You joined tcs assuming you joined tcs in your 22 and then you worked till 241/2 then you joined another company and you said you worked 2 years thats assuming 271/2 then how come you can be 25 now?? I was believing this story until i read this comment

Wow. So happy for you.

I hope people read this and understand that no job is small and there enough time to increase your salary if one is doing countinous learning. I see many new joiners rejecting 12-15k salary jobs as they want atleast 50k and wasting 1-2 years just applying for jobs.

There are also many folks who are dejected after seeing 2-3 yoe guys earning 50+lpa packages. Your post is inspirational for them, it takes 6+ months of learning useful skills and another year on top of it(job switches) to get to higher packages.

Btw, which company did you get selected for?

Thanks, These 2 YOE, 50 LPA guys are usually from tier-1 colleges. Freshers need to understand the reality, learning is the key. I hope they realize this soon.

Pls guide bro, how u got from 5.5 to 17 lpa? Is dsa the only thing? What were the main challenges? How u handled 3 months notice period?

I did buy out in TCS. my manager helped, and you can’t do it without managers approval. My pay jumped from 5.5 LPA to 17 LPA. I actually had five offers that time. 12 LPA, 14 LPA, two at 16 LPA, and the 17 LPA role I chose.

I’m an automation test engineer. I taught myself to build an automation framework from scratch .it’s on my GitHub. Most of my skills are self-taught. English was a big hurdle, but I’ve always been passionate about computers and coding.

One more thing: when I was in 12th grade, our state government gave laptops to all government-school students. I learned a lot on that laptop, huge thanks to them for that initiative.

Coming from a lower middle class bg and did a 3yr non-Cs degree. Still earning ~3L / month now @25. It's all about - how much you want something and what are willing to do/sacrifice for it.

(I know I'm flexing Salary but i wouldn't do in the real world so I'd rather do it here 😛)

I'm so happy for u, i know how hard is for a lower middle class to reach there.

You cannot be 25 now (I'm fairly good at Maths 🤷🏻‍♀️). Also, even if you reach greater heights, never look down upon your friends. Doesn't matter if they are doing well or not, they're still your friends.

All the best!
